Carillon Communities represented in your section: Visualizing Knowledge

Why do you teach IDEA101? My work centers on supporting staff. I want to get to know another side of the campus experience. I also love the idea of asking questions and allowing people the creativity and freedom to formulate answers that feel true to them.

What is special to you about Carillon Communities? I love the mission to create an environment where students develop a sense of belonging and trust to support their academic success and innovative thought.

What is an experience that shaped you as a teacher (or learner)? As a high school student, I didn’t have a teacher/advisor that took a genuine interest in my transition to college. As a high achiever, I think the assumption was that I had everything under control. As a result, I floundered as a freshman. I had absolutely no idea what to do when I arrived on campus. I want to be a source of support for all of my students. I don’t want any of them to struggle alone.

What is your favorite part about teaching? I love the head nods from students when an idea resonates with them. Those moments feel very connecting.
