Peer Mentors
Carillon Communities’ newest cohort benefits from past students' support in the Carillon Studio course (IDEA101). Peer Mentors in IDEA101 assist other students in their learning and transition to college life, creating a positive and enhanced experience for first-year students. While Peer Mentors assist other students, the role also provides opportunities for self-growth and development. Peer Mentors:
- Increase skills in creative problem solving, teamwork, communication, and leadership.
- Learn about teaching and designing college courses.
- Work with the Carillon Leadership Team to help evolve the Carillon Community experience.
- Develop greater connections with faculty and campus administrators.
During the Fall semester, Peer Mentors enroll in IDEA398C: Special Topics in Coaching一Carillon Peer Mentors (2-credit course), where they learn approaches to learning and deepen their understanding of design thinking. They also build skills in mentoring, leadership and communication. Peer Mentors attend their weekly IDEA101 section where they put into practice what they have learned and build relationships with students in their group.
The application to serve as a peer mentor opens in late March.
